Mangrove forest area is in the Sirindhorn International Environmental Park, located at Khlong Bang Tra Yai and Khlong Bang Tra Noi. This area was originally an abundant mangrove forest, crowded with various types of plants and the habitat of animals. However, the invasion and destruction of the forest have degraded down to nearly devastated forest.
It was on 14th August 1994 that HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the Crown Princess graciously mentioned an initiative to Dr.Sumet Tantivejkul, at Mrigadayavan Palace to secure suitable land for mangrove planting and rehabilitation. On 17th August 1994, the Crown Princess planted several types of mangrove trees at the entrance of Khlong Bang Tra Yai and Khlong Bang Tra Noi and graciously gave additional initiatives to conducted a study to find out how to care for trees planted to survive and continue planting further.
At present, mangrove forest areas in The Sirindhorn International Environmental Park has an increasingly abundance of ecosystem and comprising of various types plants, are all perform as a kindergarten for baby aquatic animals. They become habitats of various animals especially resident and migratory birds. They also become a natural classroom for studying the ecology and biodiversity of the mangroves forest and help raise awareness to realize the enormous benefits of mangroves forest, which is a natural resource that deserves a preservation.
